Established in 1951, with around 2,000 teaching faculty, 14,000 undergraduate and graduate students, and a campus area of 188 acres, East China Normal University (ECNU) has been widely recognized as one of the most prestigious universities in China. ECNU was ranked second in the education discipline by the Chinese government in 2006.  In humanities and social sciences, it ranks among the top ten.  The quality and dynamism of its faculty have long been its key strength.  Many of its professors have worked in collaboration with the best academic institutions around the world, including Harvard University, Cambridge University, Oxford University, the University of Chicago, and Tokyo University. ECNU has over 40 years of experience offering language, cultural, and degree programs to foreign students.  It has co-organized summer programs with education institutions from the US, Europe, and Asia for over a decade.  Students from over 20 countries have participated in these programs.  At any one time, there are around 500 foreign students, including approximately 50 from the US, studying at ECNU.
